Summary
The seventh talk is on reverence and the fear of God in the temple. People gain nothing, Dimitrios Panagopoulos says, when they arrive without inward preparation. He points to the deacon, who gathers his orarion crosswise like an angel folding its wings before he communes, as the image of how the faithful should bear themselves; if a fitting posture is taken before a judge or in a friend's house, far greater awe belongs where Christ, the Theotokos, the saints, and the angels are invisibly present. True prayer asks a death to the world, and the worshipper does well to find a quiet corner and pray undistracted. The Cherubic Hymn calls each to lay aside every earthly care, and the hymn of Holy Saturday bids all mortal flesh keep silence before the King who comes to be given as food.
