Summary
The sixth talk expounds Matthew 21. The chief priests challenge Christ in the temple over the source of His authority, and He answers with a question about the baptism of John; unable to reply without exposing themselves they plead ignorance, and He responds with two parables. In the parable of the two sons, the one who refused yet obeyed shows that tax collectors and harlots enter the Kingdom before those who professed obedience without repenting. Dimitrios Panagopoulos distinguishes the sins of the flesh, which leave room for repentance, from the sin of the spirit, pride, which closes the self against God. In the parable of the vineyard, God plants Israel, hedges it with the Law, sends prophets who are killed, and last of all His Son; the rejected stone becomes the cornerstone, and the Kingdom passes to a people bearing fruit.
