Summary
Beginning with Elizabeth in Luke 1:39-56, the Magnificat’s prophecy that every generation would call Mary blessed continues within the Church. Panagopoulos presents the Mother of Christ, who names believers His brethren in John 20:17, as their spiritual mother and enduring intercessor. He defends the veneration of icons as a visible instruction that awakens memory, reverence, and repentance, recalling traditions of images associated with Luke and preserved at Mega Spilaio, Panagia Soumela, and Kykkos; all honor rendered to Mary returns to Christ’s grace. Prophetic figures from Genesis, Isaiah, Ezekiel, the Song of Songs, and Sirach witness to her divine maternity and perpetual virginity, represented by the three stars upon her icons. Her conception and childbirth, Dormition, translation, and heavenly ministry are works of God, placing her above the angelic powers yet always dependent upon and directed toward her Son.
